To the south east of the Alicante province is the Murcia. It is located on the Sergura river. It’s a plain. The scenic beauty of the place is amazing. This is the capital city of the province called Murcia. The city as well as the province carries the same name. It is located between Community of Valencia and Andalusia in the Mediterranean Coast. Wide valleys bound the city. One can find orchards as well as urban areas in the city. The climate is also very pleasant here. The summers are dry and hot and the winter is usually mild.

History

The origin of Murcia dates back to the 9th century. During this time the Arabians were ruling the Iberian Peninsula. After their rule this city became very important and prosperous. There were very good irrigation facilities which lead to great development in the agriculture sector. Four centuries after this the city came under the Christian rule. It is one of the important places for silk production after the 18th century. However during the 19th century things did not go fine in this town. The French first looted the place. After this there was a big earthquake which resulted in floods which in turn was the cause of a lot of epidemic disease spreading among the people. The city recouped and developed only during the 20th century.

After this the urbanization was rapid and this city has become one of the most vital cultural, tourist and also an industrial center.
